I booked this hotel on a whim since it was close to Universal, and I feel like I hit the jackpot. Compared to everywhere around here, this was half the price! The room was cozy, incredibly clean, and with all of the amenities well-stocked.

Universal is a 15 minute walk away (to their shuttle), or a 30 minute walk directly to the park. The area is really nice with some solid food options, and very walkable.

Additionally, the four staffers I met during my stay were all incredibly nice. They made sure I had anything I needed, I got an early check-in, and it was no problem when I decided to stay an extra two nights.

I’m definitely booking here again. For the price, you can’t beat the room and location. 10/10

Beautiful, spacious rooms for a very reasonable price; great location! We stayed here while we were visiting Universal and found it to be an excellent value. Though on the outside it might look small, the rooms are spacious, clean, and well maintained. We received personalized service from all of the staff, who could not have been more polite. I really enjoyed our stay here and do recommend it to anyone looking to stay in LA.

Stayed 2 nights while visiting family & going to Universal Studios. It's about a 20-minute walk there during the day, but the desk attendant recommended getting a ride back at night because of unhoused folks. Room was decently clean, bed comfortable (not too soft but not super firm). No coffee machine in the room. In the morning, "breakfast" at the front desk area consisted of coffee/tea, plain muffins in individually-wrapped plastic, and instant oatmeal. The TV was set to NewsMax ?

Great little place. Clean rooms. Nice location for close by activities. Not a lot to the hotel itself other than rooms... but that's all we needed. Clean, comfortable, affordable with nice folks running the place. Will be back!

(Vivian's, across the street, is great for breakfast and/or lunch)

My husband and I stayed here and it was perfect. Our room was really nice and comfortable! It was a manageable distance from Universal Studios. The staff were so friendly and personable. We will definitely come back to stay again!

I had an incredible stay at this hotel! The staff went above and beyond to make my experience unforgettable, especially Xiver. He speaks five languages fluently, which made communication so easy for all the international guests. Xiver was always incredibly kind, friendly, and willing to help with anything we needed. His warm smile and professionalism made a lasting impression, and he truly made me feel welcome. I can’t recommend this hotel enough, and Xiver is a big part of why I’ll definitely be coming back!

Terrible customer service. Honestly, I thought that the service provided by those who run the place leaves a lot to be desired. You are supposed to feel comfortable, but from the moment you arrive, it is the opposite. The people who serve you have strange attitudes. The first word of welcome was "you are Mexican, I easily identify Mexicans," which seemed somewhat racist to me. The reason I chose this place to stay was because of its proximity to Universal Studios, but if I had known how they would welcome me, I would have chosen a better place. When we told them that we were going to Universal Studios, they suggested some activities near the city, and ended by saying that Universal Studios was only for "retarded people," which I found offensive. When I checked in, they asked me to send them the email I received from booking.com when I was supposed to only need the confirmation number. When they asked me for payment, they took my credit card with my ID and a few minutes later a guy with glasses (also acting strange) came back and told me that he would not accept my card because, according to him, my name was not on the card, however, the name was engraved, when I told him that the name was there, he continued to refuse to accept it because one of my last names only came with the initial, and that I had to pay him in cash, which bothered me so I told him that I had more credit cards (although the first one was the one I made the reservation with), finally, although unhappy, he agreed to charge me with the initial card, they did not give me any receipt or proof. The rooms are fine, just small aesthetic details like slots at some ends of the wall and the hair dryer did not work, however the treatment I received gave me a bad experience.

A really comfortable two night stay at the El Royale Hotel. Nice, well decorated room with modern en-suite ideally situated for exploring Hollywood and Universal Studios. Xavier on the reception desk was a really nice guy and looked after us well. Complimentary Coffee and Muffins for a quick breakfast was unexpected but a nice touch.
